PROCESS OR MACHINE AUTOMATED:
submerged combustion vaporizer control systems
TECHNOLOGY REPLACED:
Relay Panels
NEW TECHNOLOGY APPLIED:
Allen Bradley ControlLogix with redundancy
Allen Bradley Flex I/O
Rockwell RSView32 SCADA
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Staneco Corporation designed and upgraded the controls for several combustion vaporizers used at a LNG peak shaver facility. The original relay panels were replaced with panels containing redundant Allen Bradly ControlLogix systems. Each vaporizer control system contained two redundant PLC systems; one to handle burner management controls as required by the NFPA code, and a second for all other process controls. Flex I/O was used to handle the remote I/O located on each vaporizer skid. Since the skids were located in a Class I, Div. I environment, Nema 7 enclosures were utilized. The control room was equipped with two redundant RSView32 SCADA systems to monitor and control all vaporizers.
PROJECT OUTCOME:
The updated controls provided greater monitoring capabilities, increased energy efficiency and exceeded existing safety measures. Operators praised the new alarming capabilities and calibration enhancement features.
