Electrical Standards

NEC

Approved by the American National Standards Institute, the National Electrical Code (NEC) is the most widely-used code on the planet. NEC standards represent the most comprehensive set of electrical code requirements for electrical installations.

NFPA 70E

The National Fire Protection Association’s NFPA 70E is a standard governing electrical safety in the workplace, designed to set up practical and achievable safety standards to reduce the risk associated with the use of electricity.

IEC 60204-1

This International Electrotechnical Commission standard governs electrical supply requirements, electromagnetic compatibility requirements and overcurrent and overvoltage protection requirements.

It also covers requirements for:

  • Determining the short circuit rating of electrical equipment
  • Protective bonding
  • Protection against electric shock
  • Incoming supply
  • Safe torque off, emergency stop and control circuit protection

IEC 61010 UL508a

This standard details general safety requirements for electrical test and measurement equipment, electrical industrial process-control equipment and electrical laboratory equipment.

CSA

The CSA is the Canadian Standards Association. It publishes the Canadian Electrical Code (or CE), which governs the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment in Canada.

In addition to IEC and NEC standards, Staneco can also work with other standards as required, including arc flash calculations and short circuit calculations.
